One Year Down

Southland Concrete celebrates one year in our new home.  It has been a year of changes, as well as, a year of wonderful new experiences.

Southland’s first big change was the logo.  It was hard to part ways with our old logo.  Southland’s old logo represented history of sweat and dedication to where we are now. This new logo represents some new beginnings to keep striving in the industry.  The transition went smoothly from new hard hats, vests, banners, and everything in between.  New home new look!

Keeping with the theme of new things for Southland we also went through a full fresh upgrade on our website.  With a long six months under construction the result was worth the wait.  Southland even has an Instagram page now, we want to stay connected as much as possible with our customers and community.

Talking about community, this past holiday season Southland took part in organizing a donation bin to give to children in need of Youth for Tomorrow. Some of our team members were invited over to Youth for Tomorrow for the opening of the gifts. It was a wonderful experience seeing the faces of the children light up among opening their gifts.  Our team members were even thanked with affectionate hugs.

After the holidays, Southland kept involved in the community through sponsoring Greater Manassas Baseball League’s 8U Blue & Gray Softball Team of resilient young girls.  They won Virginia’s State championship and then went down south to play regionals.  Blue & Gray came in second place from five states that were in the championship.

We have had lots of fun in our new home from chili cook-offs, playing white elephant, and a memorable retirement party for three longtime friends/employees.   Three of Southland’s longtime employees retired this past year.  With tears, laughter and lots of hugs we sent Tommy Dawson, Royce Clayborne and Jerry Clayborne off to their retirement.  The three were big parts of the success and accomplishments Southland has had in the past.

Southland has accomplished a whole lot this year.  The greatest accomplishment was being nominated and winning Subcontractor of the Year for 2016 at the ABC’S Excellence in Construction Awards Gala.    Southland also received an award at the TCA Achievement Award Gala for our IFLY Indoor Skydiving project.  These awards were received with such honor. Our goal is always to better ourselves and be the best in what we do.

Overall, this new kind of living has suited Southland and our employees well.  It has been an amazing first year in our new home.  We will continue to improve and grow.  Most importantly we will continue “Setting the Pace”.
